This sculptural lamp is an essay in patience and precision. Ceramicist Lawrence Mcrae lovingly sculpts and carves collectable art ceramics that are both beautiful and functional. Sharing a studio with his wife and fellow ceramicist Jill Rosenwald in downtown Boston, this couple embodies the fresh creative spirit of makers pervading that neighborhood. “Teardrop" is a sexy, sleek shape that they both use to very different yet complementary effect. The cast earthenware form is modern and timeless. Mcrae’s treatment of finely carved pierced bubbles is an interpretation of natural, oceanic forms as they deteriorate over time. The perfect balance of structure and empty space appears effortless in its precision, airy and modern, yet awe-inspiring to imagine each perfect circle cut by hand. Well sized and suited to illuminate any surface or space. Comes standard with a white cotton shade and matching finial.
ICU do you see me? This beautifully sculptural piece, ringed with multitiered rows of large circular cutouts, has an open airy quality, while still maintaining its architecture and purpose. A myriad of shapes present themselves as the eye travels around and through. The pierced surface of the lamp allows light to travel through the walls of the form creating a play of shadow and light around the exterior of the piece. Destined to be the antique of the future, this heirloom quality piece is individually signed by the artist, Lawrence McRae who also scribes “Boston", to give a sense of place. The effortless looking symmetry of the design coupled with the simple and elegant cylinder shape will make a statement in any room. Crafted from start to finish by the artist, the lamp comes wired and with a white cotton shade and matching finial.
