This sculptural lamp is an essay in patience and precision. Ceramicist Lawrence Mcrae lovingly sculpts and carves collectable art ceramics that are both beautiful and functional. Sharing a studio with his wife and fellow ceramicist Jill Rosenwald in downtown Boston, this couple embodies the fresh creative spirit of makers pervading that neighborhood. “Teardrop" is a sexy, sleek shape that they both use to very different yet complementary effect. The cast earthenware form is modern and timeless. Mcrae’s treatment of finely carved pierced bubbles is an interpretation of natural, oceanic forms as they deteriorate over time. The perfect balance of structure and empty space appears effortless in its precision, airy and modern, yet awe-inspiring to imagine each perfect circle cut by hand. Well sized and suited to illuminate any surface or space. Comes standard with a white cotton shade and matching finial.
A perfect hybrid of form and function, the Lacey Brick Lamp is a piece you are sure to love for years to come. Designed to be a perfect desk or nightstand lamp its proportions are refreshingly modern and evocative of a Mid-Century Modern aesthetic. Organically placed and finely crafted the intricately pierced bubble shapes are carved by the artist’s hand in a process that takes several days after the form is cast and cured. It is then smoothed to a perfect finish and glazed and fired multiple times for depth and uniformity. Lawrence McRae signs each piece individually after creating it from start to finish in the downtown Boston studio that he shares with wife and fellow potter Jill Rosenwald. The lamp comes fully loaded with a white cotton shade and matching finial.
